On a long, tedious and lonely road was a man travelling with his dog.
Both man and dog were very, very tired. Suddenly, he saw an Oasis!
There was a gate and a fence, behind which he could hear music and
some other noises. The man went closer to the gate and met the Gate-Keeper.
The following conversation followed:
Man: What is this place called?
Gate-Keeper: Paradise, of course. You are dead and can now come in and have a well deserved rest.
Man: Really? Is water available here?
Gate-Keeper: Sure. Lots of water, pure fountains, cool pools and more.
Man: What about food?
Gate-Keeper: You will find any kind of food you wish to have here.
Man: I have a dog with me. Can I come in with it?
Gate-Keeper: Sorry sir. Dogs are not allowed in here. You will have to leave it at the gate.
The man decided not to go in without his dog and continued to walk
further down the road. He came to a farm that also had a gate. He
moved closer and met the Gate-Keeper.
Man: Can I get some water to drink here, please?
Gate-Keeper: Yes. Go in and you will find a well.
Man: Can I come in with my dog?
Gate-Keeper: Sure. When you get to the well, there is a drinking bowl.
Man: Is there some food to eat as well?
Gate-Keeper: Yes, I can offer you supper.
Man: What about my dog?
Gate-Keeper: It will get some good bones to eat.
Man: What is the name of this place?
Man: How come? The guy I met down the road told me that was Paradise there.
Gate-Keeper: Oh, that was Hell and you must have spoken to Satan.
Man: How do you cope with such a deceptive neighbor?
Gate-Keeper: Oh, a very useful neighbor. You see, Paradise is reached only by people who pass the test.
Especially those who do not abandon their good friends.
